Treasure Chest Cake

Zachary has always been interested in that cute cartoon on Disney with the Pirates. So it came as no surpirse that when it came time to decide what kind of birthday cake he wanted, he asked for a treasure chest with lots of treasure in it. I had never made a cake like this before, but was definitely up for the challenge. I realize now that the hardest part about it was keeping the lid open without sliding off. I made an extra set of cakes just in case I had some issues, but never ended up needing it. This means more cake for everyone!!! I used some fruit roll snacks to give it a border around the outside of the chest and the addition cake. I found all the gold colored wrapped candy that I could from several stores. The only candy necklaces that I could find were Christmas, so they had a bit different of colors to add to it. Zach's favorite part were the 'diamond' candy rings and the 'gold doubloons'. All in all, I am quite impressed with how it turned out :)
